A new poll on housing affordability has found 71 per cent of respondents believe home ownership will not be possible for future generations of Australians, while a further 18 per cent believe it will deteriorate even further from the present crisis levels.
Only 5 per cent of respondents thought housing affordability would improve while 6 per cent thought the situation would remain relatively stable.
The poll results confirm widely held fears that the next generation of Australians will be forced to live longer with their parents or condemned to a life of renting – a legacy described as ‘tragic’ by the Residential Development Council.
